For the first time ever, the Turkish Ministry of Health and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Europe have co-hosted an event.

The 2-day conference on how to “Expand your business in developing markets” took place in Istanbul on the 4th and 5th of June 2014 and attracted a total of 1200 delegates on its first day alone.

The first in a five-part series of conferences which will showcase the results of the Turkish Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) data collection – which HIMSS is collecting on behalf of the Turkish Ministry of Health – the goal is to have all 850 public Turkish Hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics database by 2019.

During the conference, three hospitals also received a HIMSS EMRAM (EMR Adoption Model) Stage 6 Award:

  • Mersin Erdemli Devlet Hastanesi Hospital
  • Izmir Tire Devlet Hastanesi Hospital
  • Rize Devlet Hastanesi Hospital

The award is earned by hospitals who demonstrate outstanding levels of IT implementation, ensuring superior healthcare services and much increased patient safety.

H. Stephen Lieber, President and CEO of HIMSS, said:

“The EMRAM average in Europe is currently at 2, 2 and out of the 143 datasets HIMSS has collected in Turkey, we have found the Turkish EMRAM average to be 3, 0.

“This average and the high number of Stage 6 Award recipients brings Turkey in a league with the top EMRAM countries in Europe. I am proud to be here today and celebrate this great accomplishment with those who have driven the country to this strong leadership position.”
